INTERMODELLBAU, the world's largest for model making and model sports show, is once again really set to pull in the international visitors next year when exhibitors from all over the world flock to Dortmund between 20 and 23 April 2023. As the organiser of INTERMODELLBAU, Messe Dortmund is relying not just on tried-and-trusted propositions, but is also breaking new ground with features such as a competition to find the 'new face' of the INTERMODELLBAU advertising campaign from among a host of model photos submitted. The winners have now been chosen.

Dortmund, 25 November 2022 – Which aircraft, ship, car or other model is to become the new face of the campaign to promote INTERMODELLBAU 2023? Under the slogan 'INTERMODELLBAU 2023's Got Model-Making Talent!' the show organisers had invited model makers to submit the best pictures of their favourite self-designed models. Participants had the opportunity to win free admission to INTERMODELLBAU as well as vouchers for catering and goods. The first-place winners stand to win a professional photo-shoot with their top model plus a large trade show package worth a total of approx. EUR 1,000.

Worthy winners

The panel of judges was made up of representatives from exhibitor Modellbau-Berlinski, publisher VTH, trade show marketing agency Crossover and the INTERMODELLBAU trade show team. The team of experts didn't have an easy time choosing the winners from among the huge number of submissions. In November, it announced the three nicest models and winners in the four categories of 'On the water', 'On the rails', 'In the air' and 'On the road'. The top three winning models will be used nationally and internationally for INTERMODELLBAU's print advertising campaigns.

And the winners are: In the category 'In the Air' the winner is Christoph Wegerl with second and third places both going to Stefan Nedoma. Gabriele Glücks came top in the category 'On the water', while Timo Haack and Andreas Aichner took second and third place, respectively. First place in the 'On the road' category went to a delighted Sven Romahn leaving Karl-Friedrich Jürgens as the runner-up, and with third place going to Rene Schwedler. The 'On the rails' category saw Sebastian Mühlbach finish first just ahead of Hartmut Stöver and, in third place, Markus Poen.

“It was really difficult for us to decide which entries would make it onto the winners' podium, given the many superb photos and excellent designs,” concluded panel member Marcus Berlinski, owner of Dortmund-based retailer Modellbau Berlinski. “We're confident the winners will present INTERMODELLBAU 2023 to the public in a very worthy manner.”

INTERMODELLBAU back to its former glory

There is great anticipation among exhibitors, visitors and within the Messe Dortmund team as INTERMODELLBAU 2023 is finally being held once again as a large, full-scale event for the first time since Covid struck. The entire model industry – covering aircraft, railways, ships, boats and cars in cardboard or working-model form – is set to descend on the city of Dortmund. The huge selection of models, layouts and products from all over the world is sure to offer something for everyone – whether experienced model builders or newcomers of any age. Fans of studded plastic bricks, in particular, have something to look forward to, with an especially large number of interlocking brick manufacturers expected at the forthcoming INTERMODELLBAU. Naturally, visitors will again be treated to numerous hands-on activities, demonstrations and action shows.
