INTERMODELLBAU to take pre-Christmas trading by storm

Messe Dortmund (Dortmund Exhibition Centre) has decided to postpone INTERMODELLBAU, originally planned for April, to November 2021 due to COVID. The extended lockdown – with its de facto ban on events – and continuing travel restrictions make it impossible to plan major international happenings such as INTERMODELLBAU. In order to give model building enthusiasts another unforgettable industry event this year, INTERMODELLBAU 2021 will therefore be held from Wednesday 17 to Saturday 20 November 2021. To bridge the time until November, the INTERMODELLBAU channels will inform and entertain fans and visitors to the world's largest exhibition for model making on matters related to the world's most engaging hobby.

Once a year, exhibitors and experts convene at INTERMODELLBAU to present their latest products and trends in all segments of model building – a truly hands-on event. The fair also includes extensive offerings for fans of model sports activities. INTERMODELLBAU is a firm diary date for experienced model builders and newcomers alike, and is also an interesting venue for the whole family, enabling people to share ideas with the community, discover new products, be inspired by unique, detailed, fascinating models, and also obtain all the products and accessories they need for the world's most engaging hobby.

COVID outlook suggests: an April fair would fall short of expectations

The fair was unable to be held last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Current developments show the pandemic is still a continuing serious intrusion into everyday life and therefore precludes holding INTERMODELLBAU in April. “As organiser of this, the World's largest exhibition for model making and model sports, holding the exhibition in the spring would technically be feasible if official approval were in place,” said Sabine Loos, Managing Director of Westfalenhallen Unternehmensgruppe GmbH,“ but in the current situation it simply wouldn't do justice to the quality expectations which visitors and exhibitors rightly have.”

Railways, aircraft, ships, cars, figures and much more – the popular range of products at the fair is unrivalled anywhere in the world and inspires experienced model makers as well as new enthusiasts and families. It therefore comes as no surprise that, for over half the visitors, INTERMODELLBAU is the only fair they attend. This shows the high standing it enjoys among experts and interested parties. “However, to do the fair justice, we and the exhibitors really need greater planning certainty. Also, in the current situation and under the prevailing conditions, certain features of the event would not have been able to be incorporated,” said Sabine Loos.

INTERMODELLBAU – with a Christmas feel

With a view to making INTERMODELLBAU 2021 safe and successful for everyone, it was therefore decided – in conjunction with the exhibition's partners – to postpone the fair from April to November 2021. “For decades, the fair has been a meeting place for professionals in the industry, for young and old, and for entire families,” said Sabine Loos. “So we had a hard time imagining yet another year without it. We are therefore delighted to have found a good solution with the November date, offering the large model making community a platform for coming together and networking before the year is out,” she continued, underlining the decision.

Visitors to INTERMODELLBAU 2021 can now look forward to an eventful and exciting fair. Awaiting them from 17 to 20 November 2021 will be fascinating innovations in the world of model making, live demonstrations of interesting systems and technologies, face-to-face discussions with experts, knowledge-sharing within the community and a concentrated variety of products – all with an eye to pre-Christmas trading.
